Port-IT adds back-up feature to maritime e-mail application

Shipping e-mail and cyber security specialist Port-IT has added a new back-up feature to expand the capabilities of its Orilla Mail vessel e-mail software.

Orilla Mail now includes an opt-in back-up service that stores all incoming and outgoing e-mail, to provide a recovery option in cases where the communication PC onboard a vessel crashes.

By opting in to the service Port-IT will ensure that all e-mail will be available in the event of an incident, at no additional cost. The length of time the back-ups are retained is chosen by the user, up to a maximum of 5 years.

Orilla Mail is a shore-managed maritime e-mail system, with an integrated web interface. The application is also integrated with Port-IT’s IRIS cyber security service, which scans incoming e-mail using a range of antivirus products in order to reduce the possibility that an infection reaches the vessel.

Crew e-mail capabilities are also included for users of the software as standard, at no extra charge.
