Kawasaki routing and BOG optimisation tech gets ClassNK certification

Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ SOPass (Ship Operation and Performance Analysis Support System), an optimised routing and BOG (Boil Off Gas) management software platform for LNG Carriers, has been certified by ClassNK and granted the class society’s Innovation Endorsement for Product & Solutions.

The certification process included verification of the application’s various functions, including provision of optimised routing by integrating weather data with simulations of ship motion, provision of optimised operation support for LNG carriers based on the calculation of the amount of BOG, and evaluation of plant efficiency and propulsion efficiency including future deterioration prediction.

ClassNK’s Innovation Endorsement certification was introduced in July 2020 to promote the spread and development of innovative technologies, providing a certification service in cooperation with technology providers to establish appropriate evaluation criteria.

Among the certification categories, Product & Solutions covers digital equipment and software technology installed for use on vessels. To date, two applications have been certified, and further 21 cases are currently under inspection.

In addition to software systems, some 63 ships have also now been certified with ClassNK’s Digital Smart Ship notation (DSS).
