BunkerMetric launches barge tracking software

Bunker planning and analytics software provider BunkerMetric has added a new application to its portfolio, with a new BargeTracker system for monitoring of bunker barge movements.

The software employs machine learning and evidence-based analysis to track bunker barges using AIS and other relevant data sources, creating an overview of bunker barge movements and their interactions with other vessels or port shore facilities.

The technology analyses the millions of AIS data positions generated every hour, digesting this data set to identify the small fraction that describe bunkering and present that information to the user.

“Not only are we looking for a few needles in a haystack, but the needles we are looking for are of many diverse forms and can easily be mistaken for similar looking activities,” said BunkerMetric Data Scientist James Richardson.

“Having access to vast data sources is just the start, combining it with the experience and insights of industry experts allows us to create bespoke models interpreting bunker barge behaviour in detail, aiming to derive any required information in real time.”
