ClassNK publishes guidance on IACS cyber requirements

ClassNK reports that it has released its new ‘Guidelines for Cyber resilience of ships’, incorporating the new IACS Unified Requirements (UR) with measures to ensure the cybersecurity of ships.

The IACS UR E26 for ships and UR E27 for onboard systems and equipment set minimum requirements for cyber resilience, with the aim of reducing the occurrence and mitigating the impact of cyber incidents in maritime.

The unified requirements have been applied to new ships contracted for construction since 1 July 2024.

ClassNK has now incorporated these requirements into Part X of its ‘Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships’, covering computer-based systems, and its ‘Guidance for the Approval and Type Approval of Materials and Equipment for Marine Use’.

The class society has also set up a portal aggregating related information to support clients in responding to requirements relating to cyber resilience. The guidelines are available to download within that portal.
