DNV invests in 2021.AI to support assurance of AI-powered systems

Denmark-based artificial intelligence assessment and certification firm 2021.AI reports that it has successfully raised DKK 28 million (approx. €3.6 million) in a bridge funding round led by classification society DNV.

The new capital raised from DNV Ventures and existing investors will be used to support the company as it prepares for a larger funding round in Q1 2025. The partnership with DNV will also see the companies work together to support clients in managing compliance with AI and data regulations, including the EU AI Act.

“At DNV, we pride ourselves on being a leader in shaping digital assurance of AI – a trait shared by 2021.AI, who is well-positioned to help us fast-track this work,” said Frank Børre Pedersen, Digital Assurance Director at DNV.

“We see strong potential in our collaboration to extend our use of AI and enhance DNV’s presence in AI assurance and certification, a key focus area for us.”

DNV aims to provide an integrated approach to assuring AI-enabled systems by assessing development processes and products using AI testing technologies, to ensure artificial intelligence technologies can be scaled safely, particularly in critical sectors such as transport.

“We are delighted to welcome DNV as an investor and partner. This is the perfect match for 2021.AI, as we aim to work with the best and most respected companies in AI assessment and certification. With DNV’s expertise, we will significantly enhance our AI governance offering via the GRACE AI platform,” said Mikael Munck, CEO and founder of 2021.AI.
