Minerva vessels deploy new file sharing infrastructure

Minerva’s group of ship management companies, incorporating Minerva Marine, Minerva Gas and Minerva Dry, have completed the deployment of the Dualog Drive file transfer service, to streamline data transfers from fleet vessels to its offices.

With this update to its systems, all three ship management companies can now automatically send up to one million files to and from their combined fleet of more than 70 vessels each week, including Oil Tankers, LNG Carriers, Bulk Carriers and Container Ships.

Minerva’s daily data exchange needs include software distribution to keep onboard systems up to date; shore-to-vessel Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) database synchronisation and the distribution of large training videos.

The company also requires access to other types of data such as videos from CCTV onboard, as well as VDR and ECDIS playback files.

“Our fleet’s data flow capability required more control as it was difficult to manage and troubleshoot, with multiple manual processes both onboard and in the offices,” said Ilias Vlachogiannis, Head of Fleet ICT at Minerva Marine.

“Large files transfers were often facing interruptions making difficult their delivery on time due to connection issues. These were the key reasons we began exploring alternatives for data transfer within our fleet.”

Minerva had already been using Dualog’s maritime email service for the past year, before adopting the new file transfer tool.
