ICEYE and SATIM have launched a new product, Detect & Classify, which uses artificial intelligence to automatically identify and categorise vessels and other vehicles in satellite imagery.
The companies claim that the system delivers greater than 90% accuracy, combining ICEYE’s high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery with SATIM’s AI-based analytics to deliver both the raw image and object detections in a single package.
ICEYE operates its own SAR satellite constellation, with 54 satellites launched to date, and recently introduced a wide-area imaging mode covering up to 60,000 km² per scene.
Applications include identifying patterns of behaviour across large volumes of imagery, locating and classifying assets, and detecting ‘dark vessels’ at sea. ICEYE says imagery and AI-derived classifications can be delivered within hours, or in some cases minutes.
