Aquarius Bulk Carrier Shipping has agreed a deal with Navarino to update the digital infrastructure across its ten bulk carriers, introducing new connectivity, IT and cyber security systems.
The company has adopted a hybrid communications set-up built on Starlink and Ku-band VSAT, using Intellian v100NX antennas. The combination provides high-bandwidth capacity and redundancy to maintain stable connections in varying operational conditions.
Aquarius says the additional crew welfare benefits from improved bandwidth were a key factor in selecting the new network, supporting seafarers with access to low-latency links for communication with family and online services.
Aquarius has also introduced Navarino’s Infinity Plus platform to manage and standardise its onboard IT resources. The system gives IT managers central control of network segmentation, VPN access, application performance and bandwidth use, creating a unified environment across the fleet.
To strengthen cyber resilience, the company has deployed Navarino’s Angel service, which provides real-time threat detection, compliance support for IMO 2021 and TMSA requirements, and access to a security operations centre.
Aquarius notes that the cyber security notifications it has received have helped the company to identify vulnerabilities and detect attempted IDP and IPS attacks, including details of their origin and severity. The company is also using Navarino’s Spectrum platform for remote monitoring and patch management to reduce onboard interventions.
