Fleetzero gets $43m to scale vessel electrification and autonomy tech

Fleetzero reports that it has secured US$43 million in a Series A financing round to scale the manufacturing of its hybrid and electric marine propulsion systems, including the development of a marine robotics and autonomy lab.

The investment round was led by Obvious Ventures and included participation from Maersk Growth, 8090 Industries, and Breakthrough Energy Ventures.

The capital will be used to expand the production of the Leviathan system, which can be deployed on both new and existing commercial vessels. A new research and development facility in Houston, Texas, has also been opened, featuring a marine robotics and autonomy lab, and a marine propulsion R&D centre.

The technology is designed to support both hybrid and all-electric vessel configurations to lower the total cost of ownership through reduced fuel and maintenance costs.

“Fleetzero is making robotic ships a reality today. The team is moving us from dirty, dangerous, and expensive to clean, safe, and cost-effective. It’s like watching the future today,” said Andrew Beebe, Managing Director at Obvious Ventures.

“We backed the team because they are mariners and engineers, know the industry deeply, and are scaling with real ships and customers, not just renderings.”
