Marcura has acquired Shipdem, a UK-based specialist in chemical tanker laytime and demurrage, from its parent company Casper Shipping. The acquisition is intended to improve the technical capabilities of the technology group in the chemical tanker segment.
Shipdem, founded in 2012, manages the end-to-end claims process for traders and operators. The acquisition follows the purchase of HubSE in 2025, a provider of technology for self-service tanker demurrage, with Shipdem bringing a fully managed service model to the group.
“Customers need different levels of support depending on how they operate,” said Henrik Hyldahn, Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marcura.
“Our goal is to deliver that flexibility, whether through software that supports self-service or expert teams who manage the entire claims process. Adding Shipdem and their team strengthens our technical capability in chemical demurrage and reinforces the choice we offer to customers.”
The Shipdem team will be integrated into the Marcura Claims division, where they will continue to focus on chemical tanker work while working with colleagues across the wider organisation.
Marcura currently processes more than 200,000 port calls and US$17 billion in payments annually. The company is currently focusing on a strategy of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across its claims, procurement, and payment platforms to reduce manual workloads for maritime operators.
