Cyber firm Cequra raises funding from Motion Ventures

Cequra has secured investment from Motion Ventures to develop a cyber-physical decision infrastructure layer for the maritime industry.

“As vessels become permanently online, maritime security is about to be rebuilt from the vessel up. The next five years will produce a category winner that sits above every existing tool – IT, OT, GNSS – as the layer operators trust when everything else is in question. We’re backing Cequra to build that layer,” said Shaun Hon, Founder and General Partner at Motion Ventures.

The platform is designed to operate as an edge-native, offline-capable system that ingests signals across cyber, navigation, and connectivity domains simultaneously.

Rather than replacing existing bridge or bridge-monitoring systems, the software will aim to act as a prioritised output layer for crews and a tamper-evident record for shore teams, helping them to decide what data to trust when onboard systems conflict.

“The future of maritime cybersecurity is not just detecting attacks. It is helping operators know what to trust when systems disagree. Cequra was built to support crews and shore teams in exactly those moments, when cyber, navigation, and operational signals converge and decisions still have to be made,” said Andrew Sallay, CEO and co-founder of Cequra.

Motion Ventures, backed by maritime operators including Wilhelmsen, Stolt-Nielsen, and MOL PLUS, will provide Cequra with access to global fleets and procurement relationships to deploy the technology in real-world operating environments.
