Marcura adds husbandry platform to target vessel OpEx

Marcura has launched Marcura Husbandry, a platform designed to integrate planning, procurement, execution, and benchmarking into a single workflow to address what the company believes is a gap in vessel operational expenditure (OpEx) management.

Husbandry port calls, which include crew changes, repairs, bunkering stops, and maintenance calls, are frequently managed through email chains and informal coordination without reliable data. According to analysis by Marcura, close to a fifth of the roughly 1.3 million port calls recorded globally each year are classified as husbandry.

The new platform begins cost management processes before agents are appointed. An Estimator module draws on historical data, port profiles, and vessel characteristics to calculate expected husbandry costs, and where contracted rates exist, they are surfaced automatically during the approval process. If contracted rates are unavailable, a digital request for quotation (RFQ) standardises agent quotes and displays a market benchmark alongside them.

Following agent appointment, the proforma disbursement account (PDA) is screened against benchmark rates, contracted rates, and historical spending. The final disbursement account (FDA) undergoes the same validation checks upon arrival.

Data from each port call feeds into vessel and voyage spend analytics, PDA-to-FDA variance reporting, and updated market benchmarks.

“Marcura has spent 25 years at the centre of port spend management, processing disbursement accounts and building the data that underpins how the industry understands port costs. That depth of proprietary data, combined with the expertise we have built internally, gives us unmatched insight that helps drive value,” said Janani Yagnamurthy, SVP, Product at Marcura.

“Marcura Husbandry brings this capability into the full vessel management lifecycle, and we believe it marks a fundamental shift in how ship managers approach non-commercial port call costs.”
