Danish tanker shipping company Uni-Tankers has signed a partnership agreement with Sofar Ocean to deploy its Wayfinder platform across its entire fleet.
The technology will be used to support route and speed decisions, as well as improve coordination between the company’s ship and shore-based teams.
The fleetwide implementation follows a period of expansion for Uni-Tankers, which currently manages a record fleet of 44 vessels operating across both the spot market and long-term contracts.
“Operating a global fleet requires a consistent focus on both safety and operational performance,” said Peter Søbygge, General Manager Operations at Uni-Tankers.
“Our vessels trade across regions and weather systems, where reliable data and strong visibility support more consistent decision-making both onboard and onshore. With Wayfinder, we see an opportunity to further strengthen how we plan and execute our voyages, while supporting safe and efficient operations across the fleet.”
The system utilises real-time marine weather intelligence, vessel-specific digital twins for performance modelling, and dynamic voyage optimisation to guide day-to-day operations. According to performance data from 2025, Sofar Ocean says that shipowners using the platform achieved an average fuel saving of 6.9% per voyage.

The partnership forms part of a broader series of efficiency investments by Uni-Tankers. Since 2025, the company has added modern eco tankers to its fleet, invested in wind-assisted propulsion systems, and joined the CLEANSHIP project run by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency to measure the real-world impact of emissions-reducing initiatives during voyages.
