Anschütz adds collision avoidance system to AUTONOMICS

Anschütz has developed AUTONOMICS CGA, a navigation decision support system for its AUTONOMICS platform designed to assess collision and grounding risks and provide bridge teams with COLREG-based manoeuvring guidance.

The system combines data from radar, AIS, electronic charts and AI-supported electro-optical/infrared sensors to create a real-time navigational picture.

The integrated AUTONOMICS Eye EO/IR sensor also generates AI-detected targets, including small, low-profile and non-cooperative objects that may be difficult to detect using conventional systems.

AUTONOMICS CGA continuously analyses encounter situations and assesses potential risks against COLREG requirements, using vessel characteristics, chart information, surrounding traffic and navigational constraints to calculate areas where safe manoeuvres are possible.

The system then generates and updates collision-avoidance trajectories for both course and speed as conditions change.

For heading-only manoeuvres, selected actions can be transferred directly to an Anschütz autopilot for execution while the system continues to monitor the situation and update its recommendations.

Anschütz says the system is designed to reduce the amount of manual analysis required by navigators by prioritising relevant targets and structuring information on the bridge.

AUTONOMICS CGA is being developed as a stand-alone system for a range of bridge configurations and will shortly enter a validation phase with selected customers.
