Inmarsat NexusWave gets BV cyber security approval

Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave connectivity service has been awarded Cyber Security Type Approval by Bureau Veritas (BV) against the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) Unified Requirement (UR) E27.

The approval follows an assessment of the NexusWave onboard Information and Communication Technology (ICT) architecture, network equipment, orchestration processes and managed service edge infrastructure.

Rather than assessing individual components in isolation, BV evaluated how the different elements operate together as an integrated system within the onboard connectivity environment.

UR E27 sets requirements for the cyber resilience of applicable shipboard systems and equipment.

The approval follows a ClassNK Cyber Security Type Approval for NexusWave against the same IACS requirement earlier this year.

NexusWave bonds multiple connectivity underlays, including GEO, LEO, LTE and L-band, into a single managed service, with network segmentation, encryption and centrally managed security capabilities incorporated into its architecture.
