DCSA membership expands to cover 70% of container trade

The newly launched Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), which officially began operations in April 2019, has wasted no time in expanding its membership to add CMA CGM, Evergreen Line, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Yang Ming and ZIM – with the full Association membership now responsible for 70% of global container shipping trade.

CMA CGM has joined the existing group of Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, MSC and Ocean Network Express (ONE) as a Founding Member of the Association, taking a place on the supervisory board. The other new additions will join DCSA as members of its General Assembly, subject to regulatory approval.

“CMA CGM is always looking for best practices and standards to support the innovation and digital strategy of the company. Being a founding member will enable us to work together on setting the standards for digitisation of the entire industry,” said Rajesh Krishnamurthy, Executive Vice President of IT & Transformations, CMA CGM.

With these additions, DCSA will now be able to call on the support of nine of the largest container shipping lines in the world as it moves forward with its goal of driving digital standardisation in the box shipping sector.

“We are thrilled to have additional members joining the DCSA on our journey to drive standardisation and interoperability in the industry, with CMA CGM joining as a founding member,” said Thomas Bagge, the former Maersk executive recently installed as DCSA CEO.

“It is critical for our success that the standards developed will be implemented, and the commitment and engagement of many container shipping lines is therefore crucial.”

The Association has also announced the appointment of a new COO, with Henning Schleyerbach to take on the role from 1 July, moving across from his position as Senior Director of Customer Relationship Management at Hapag-Lloyd.

“In Henning Schleyerbach we have won another strong industry profile, who as COO will drive DCSA’s operational activities,” said Andre Simha, Chief Information Officer at MSC and Chairman of the DCSA supervisory board.

“With Henning Schleyerbach and Thomas Bagge, DCSA has a strong leadership team in place which is supported by all founding members and represents container shipping at its best across all aspects.”
