GTT takeover combines Marorka with Ascenz

LNG carrier operator GTT, headquartered in France, has announced the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of Iceland-based Marorka from its owners and management team, a specialist in maritime energy monitoring and optimisation systems currently installed on approximately 600 vessels.

The move marks an acceleration in GTT’s digital strategy, and will see the Marorka business aligned with its Ascenz subsidiary based in Singapore, with the two businesses seen as complementary on terms of their technical, commercial and geographical profile.

“We are happy to welcome Marorka in the Group. This acquisition is an important new step in GTT’s digital roadmap,” said Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT.

“Smart shipping is an essential component to allow the shipping industry to reduce its environmental footprint. LNG shipping players are also increasingly seeking digital solutions to optimise their operations and will benefit from an even more compelling service offering from GTT thanks to this acquisition.”

The transaction has been funded in cash, though the terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The previous Marorka owners will continue to manage the company following the acquisition, the company said.
