KVH adds regional services on subscription VSAT package

KVH has announced that it is adding regional service offerings to its AgilePlans Connectivity as a Service (CaaS) subscription-based VSAT product, targeted at smaller commercial vessels.

The regional service will offer data speeds of 5 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload, delivered using KVH’s 37 cm TracPhone V3-HTS antenna. The service includes new rate plans with no overage charges, the company says, and will be available with North America/Caribbean, South America, Western Europe/Africa, and Asia Pacific as the designated regions.

AgilePlans global services are available with a 60 cm or 1 m antenna, with data speeds reaching up to 20 Mbps on the download depending on the package and antenna used.

“As the pace of maritime digitalisation accelerates, we wanted to ensure that smaller commercial vessels could take advantage of the all-inclusive, no-commitment AgilePlans offering, which has proven so successful for commercial fleets worldwide,” said Mark Woodhead, KVH’s Executive Vice President for Mobile Connectivity.

AgilePlans is a subscription-based model offering connectivity, hardware, installation and maintenance on a monthly contract for a single fee, with no longer-term commitment required. KVH says that this monthly subscription model represented 70% of its commercial VSAT shipments during the third quarter of 2019.
