Weathernews and Groke Technologies partner on maritime automation

Weathernews and Groke Technologies, a start-up focused on the development of autonomous navigation technologies, have announced a new partnership to collaborate on new automation and digitalisation systems for the shipping industry.

Groke Technologies is a Finnish start-up established in 2019 by four people who had previously worked within the ship intelligence team at Rolls-Royce on autonomous navigation technology development.

The team has been supported by investment from Mitsubishi Corporation, with whom they are now jointly developing intelligent navigation systems for shipping operations.

Groke and Weathernews plan to begin by working together to provide services related to weather and meteorological data, route planning, and autonomous systems, before expanding their scope to create an open innovation platform related to autonomy.

Juha Rokka, Chief Executive Officer at Groke Technologies welcomed the partnership with Weathernews, noting that it will benefit Groke in its development of improved awareness systems and widen its potential range of strategic partnerships.
