DP World to run container analysis project at Jebel Ali Port

Port and logistics operator DP World is to undertake a container monitoring proof of concept (PoC) project at Jebel Ali Port with analytics company ConexBird, using its technology to measure the physical condition of shipping containers while they are being lifted by container cranes.

The project will include installation of ConexBird measurement equipment on three STS cranes in operation at the port for real-time resonance testing of each container during handling, with raw measurements being processed by machine learning software and analysed for potential operational improvement insights.

ConexBird will deliver both the hardware and analytics software for the project, mounting its vibration-analysis sensors on the container spreaders connected to a central processing unit where the data can be collected and processed.

“With our container condition insight, ConexBird’s goal is to help ports create new added value for themselves, for shipping lines and for other intermodal stakeholders, in order to make container shipping as smart, safe and sustainable as possible: we see in DP World an innovative, forward-thinking partner alongside whom this vision can become reality,” said Teuvo Heikkilä, CEO of ConexBird.
