TUI Cruises upgrades shipboard connectivity

TUI Cruises is rolling out a new managed hybrid network incorporating Starlink LEO connectivity on its Mein Schiff fleet, in partnership with its satcom service provider Marlink.

The new system will combine the LEO connectivity with global 4G/5G and C/Ku-band VSAT on six existing Mein Schiff vessels and two newbuilds.

These various connectivity links will be managed and controlled using Marlink’s SD-WAN system, which optimises routing of traffic across the network.

“Marlink’s internet solutions provide us with the technology we need to make our guests’ wishes come true and keep our crews connected,” said Dietrich Koch, Director IT Commercial, IT Security & Newbuild, TUI Cruises.

“Enabling LEO internet services across the Mein Schiff fleet represents a new era in experiences that will enhance the onboard experience.”

Marlink has provided communications for TUI Cruises and its Mein Schiff fleet since 2018.
