Saga Welco extends Weathernews deal

Shipping company Saga Welco has signed a new deal with Weathernews to extend its use of the TFMS (Total Fleet Management Solution) range of applications, extending a partnership between the firms stretching back more than 19 years.

Saga Welco operates a fleet of 48 Open Hatch Gantry Crane vessels and provides services transporting forest products, breakbulk, project cargo, and bulk cargoes. The company, established in 2014, is jointly owned by NYK and Westfal-Larsen.

Under the new contract, the shipping company will continue to leverage Weathernews’ full range of weather routing and vessel optimisation systems to support fleet safety and efficiency.

“Weathernews’ intelligent weather routing and risk management solutions are essential for ensuring the safety of our vessels, crew, and cargo while minimising environmental impact,” said Helge Røttingen, Vessel Performance Manager at Saga Welco.

“Optimising fleet performance while enhancing safety, efficiency, and environmental responsiveness remains key to our operations. Weathernews’ advanced tools and data-driven insights are instrumental in achieving our operational goals and maintaining our commitment to sustainability.”

The two companies note that they also plan to work together to explore new digital tools that further enhance operational efficiency and environmental compliance, including improved predictive weather modelling, real-time data integration, and customised voyage optimisation technologies.
