Star Information Systems in Premas merger

Norway-based maritime software companies Star Information Systems and Premas have announced plans to merge, in a deal backed by Star’s Norwegian private equity owner Longship.

Star confirmed that Longship has acquired a majority stake in the company in January of this year, though the financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The new agreement with Premas will combine the resources and expertise of both companies, offering software and services covering Asset Management, Maintenance, QHSE, Supply & Logistics, and Projects.

Premas was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Ålesund. The company serves the maritime and offshore industries, with a particular emphasis on the Norwegian aquaculture and passenger transport sectors.

Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Trondheim, Star Information Systems recorded revenues of approximately NOK 100 million (US$9.2 million) in 2023. The company operates five global offices.

The partners say that no significant changes are expected for employees, existing customers, or suppliers in the short term. Sales, marketing, finance, and HR will be combined in due course.

“This merger marks the start of a new and exciting journey for both Star and Premas, intending to build an even stronger, more competitive organisation with an increased global reach,” said Bjørn Martin Klokkernes, Managing Director of Star Information Systems.
