Satellite operator Space Norway has placed an order for a new geostationary satellite, THOR 8, planned to join its fleet at 1° West.
The contract for the design, construction, testing, and delivery of the satellite was agreed with Thales Alenia Space, with a launch scheduled for 2027. It is expected to have an operational lifespan of approximately 15 years.
THOR 8 is designed as a dual-use satellite equipped with Ku and Ka-band payloads, offering connectivity for maritime and land-based clients across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
It will also provide broadcasting coverage in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the Nordics, supporting both government and commercial operations.
