Greek company M2Intelligence reports that it has begun offering technology packages to assist vessel operators in managing compliance with India’s new maritime CCTV mandate.
Merchant Shipping Notice No. 02 of 2025 from India’s Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) requires all Indian-flagged vessels of 500 GT and above, as well as foreign-flagged vessels trading in Indian coastal waters under a Special Purpose License (SPL), to install CCTV systems.
Foreign-flagged vessels calling at Indian ports are also being “encouraged to adopt similar best practices with respect to CCTV systems” as those outlined in the regulation.
Existing vessels must comply within 36 months or by their next renewal survey, while newly built vessels must install CCTV before delivery.
CCTV coverage areas should include main decks, mooring areas, navigation bridges, external accommodation spaces, and citadels, with the DGS noting that it is “highly recommended” that the systems incorporate real-time anomaly detection and analysis through the integration of AI.
