‘K’ Line LNG Shipping (UK) has expanded its connectivity infrastructure with additional low earth orbit (LEO) capabilities as it prepares for participation in the Northern Lights project, which transports CO₂ to storage facilities in Norway to support European industrial decarbonisation.
The company is working with satcom service provider Navarino to deploy two Starlink terminals on each vessel, managed through Navarino’s Infinity platform, to support both crew welfare and business operations.
The Starlink system will be complemented by Iridium Certus, with automatic failover to ensure continuous connectivity.
‘K’ Line has also implemented a 5G service across the Northern Lights fleet, with prioritisation of selected communications channels to be managed by the Infinity system.

“Our vessels Northern Pioneer and her sister ship Northern Pathfinder are utilising the latest low-carbon technologies, including LNG fuel, wind-assisted rotor sail and an air lubrication system, while safely transporting CO2. Innovation and technological development are actively encouraged and require robust and reliable communication systems, enhancing digitalisation of onboard systems.”
