Viasat, parent company of Inmarsat Maritime, reports that it has signed an agreement with Telesat to incorporate Ka-band capacity from the upcoming Telesat Lightspeed LEO constellation into its multi-orbit connectivity network.
The agreement will see the LEO capacity integrated with Viasat’s existing high-throughput satellites to deliver broadband services backed by service level agreements across high-demand areas including ports and other traffic-heavy routes.
The addition of the Telesat Lightspeed capacity forms part of Viasat’s wider roadmap for the expansion of its multi-orbit infrastructure.
“By leveraging our own satellite fleet and its unique advantages, existing national operator partnerships, plus coverage and capacity from leading third-party satellites and constellations, our services are designed to provide customers with the essential capacity density, market access, speed, bandwidth and responsiveness they need,” said Mark Dankberg, Chairman and CEO, Viasat.
