Cobham Group has agreed a deal to sell Cobham Satcom to Swedish investment firm Solix Group, with the transaction expected to close later this year subject to regulatory approvals.
Cobham Satcom is a provider of satellite communications systems with a long-established presence in the maritime industry.
The company has itself grown out of a number of acquisitions over the last twenty years to become one of the dominant players in the vessel antenna and safety equipment sector. This includes Thrane & Thrane of Denmark, bought in 2012, which had previously purchased the mobile satcom business of Norway’s Nera in 2006 – the original creator of the now iconic SAILOR brand.
“This transaction will enable us to accelerate our strategy and continue to develop and deliver best-in-class connectivity and safety solutions to our global customer segments,” said Christophe Duret, CEO of Cobham Satcom.
“Our capabilities and technology leadership within the maritime industry have been well established and recognised since the 1950s. In recent years, we have also demonstrated our ability to apply these competencies to develop new, critical market-leading satcom solutions for government and defence customers.”
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed within the calendar year, once these approvals have been obtained. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
The acquisition is the second recent foray into the maritime technology sector by Swedish investment company Solix Group, with the firm having agreed a deal to acquire Wärtsilä’s Automation, Navigation and Control System (ANCS) business in late 2024.
