Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has agreed a deal to retrofit two vessels with AI-based navigation systems from Avikus, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai, marking Avikus’ first commercial retrofit project outside Korea.
The agreement will see Avikus’ HiNAS Control, SVM, and HiNAS Cloud systems installed on one bulk carrier and one suezmax tanker managed by EPS.
HiNAS Control uses machine learning to assist with navigation and optimise routing, while HiNAS Cloud provides shore teams with real-time analytics and decision support tools.
The contract includes full system commissioning and a training programme covering onboard sessions and ongoing online education for crew members.
EPS says the project supports its drive to improve safety and fuel efficiency through the adoption of advanced technologies.
