Simon Møkster Shipping adopts pooled Starlink bandwidth model

Simon Møkster Shipping has introduced a new pooled bandwidth model for Starlink services across its fleet as part of its digitalisation strategy, allowing the company to dynamically allocate LEO (low earth orbit) internet capacity between vessels based on operational needs.

The Stavanger-based offshore vessel operator runs a fleet of 15 support vessels, primarily in the North and Barents Seas. The pooled service will be delivered by Marlink and will support both business-critical applications and crew welfare services as part of a wider hybrid network system that includes Marlink’s Sealink VSAT.

The pooled model enables bandwidth to be shared between ships depending on deployment, combining best effort Starlink connectivity with guaranteed VSAT bandwidth for business operations. The network setup also includes cybersecurity systems as standard.

“Simon Møkster Shipping accelerates our digital journey with a new level of flexibility and efficiency offered by the Starlink pooled bandwidth model,” said Terje Gjerde, Simon Møkster Shipping.

“With Marlink as our trusted partner, we’re not just staying connected, we’re gaining the digital edge we need to stay ahead in a highly competitive market.”
