Cerberus and HD Hyundai partnership to launch Cerberus Maritime for new investments

Cerberus Capital Management and HD Hyundai have announced a strategic partnership to launch a new maritime investment vehicle, Cerberus Maritime.

The partners say that the initiative aims to align with the US Government’s efforts to rebuild domestic maritime capabilities and will target investment in shipbuilding, port modernisation, logistics infrastructure, and advanced maritime technologies, with a particular focus on US shipyards.

HD Hyundai will act as an anchor investor and technical partner, contributing expertise in shipbuilding, marine engineering, and digital maritime systems. The Korea Development Bank (KDB) has also signalled its support, noting the alignment of the strategy with Korean national objectives.

“We’re proud to announce this first-of-its kind partnership that brings together the strengths of Cerberus and HD Hyundai to support this historic commitment to revitalising the US maritime sector,” said Cerberus CEO Frank Bruno.

“We believe our strategy can play an important role by bringing investments alongside operational and technical capabilities to high-impact opportunities.”

Cerberus has previously invested in the Subic Bay shipyard in the Philippines, acquired in 2022, which has since been redeveloped for shipbuilding, subsea infrastructure, and logistics operations, with HD Hyundai among its tenants.
