ION Commodities has relaunched its Softmar system as a SaaS platform, expanding beyond chartering and operations to include freight risk management, emissions tracking and integration with wider commodity trading systems.

The company says the update reflects the fact that market volatility, sanctions and environmental regulations that have increased the complexity of freight management in commodity supply chains.

Softmar is designed to provide greater visibility of exposure and compliance obligations, with additions including Profit-at-Risk analytics, developed for illiquid freight markets to give a forward-looking view of freight exposure, as well as carbon emissions tracking to support environmental cost management.

The platform integrates chartering, voyage management and risk functions across dry bulk, liquid and gas commodities, and can connect with ION’s Commodity Trading and Risk Management systems.

“Freight management is no longer just about fixing vessels or managing risk in isolation. It now impacts profitability, compliance, and overall business performance,” said Sunil Biswas, CEO, ION Corporates.

“Softmar gives companies the clarity and control they need to protect margins and remain competitive in an increasingly complex market.”
