Belgian shipping company EXMAR has announced plans to begin pilot testing of the Inmarsat NexusWave connectivity platform.
The move comes following recent tests of the communications system at Inmarsat’s Rotterdam facilities to demonstrate the capabilities of the bonded network offering, after which EXMAR agreed to deploy the technology on two of its vessels for further assessment.
This implementation project will be carried out in cooperation with Inmarsat and American multinational cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks, to ensure that the higher-speed maritime internet capabilities deployed are matched with robust cybersecurity.

EXMAR has been ramping up its digital capabilities over the course of 2025, having agreed a deal at the end of last year to implement a vessel performance optimisation platform developed by Toqua across its fleet to maximise the value of its existing repository of big data.
The company is using that system to drive improvements in areas such as hull performance monitoring, chartering decisions, sister vessel comparisons, engine monitoring, and voyage optimisation.
