Windward has introduced an AI-based document validation system designed to cross-check trade documents against vessel activity, voyage history, and ownership records.
The tool extracts information from paperwork such as Bills of Lading and Certificates of Origin and verifies that details match real-world operations. It can highlight discrepancies in declared cargo origins, identify gaps in voyage histories, and cross-reference counterparties against sanctioned or high-risk entities.
For containerised goods, the system integrates shipment data from Windward’s Maritime Container Logistics service.
Windward says the technology aims to reduce the growing compliance burden created by sanctions regimes and tariff programmes.
“The volume of documentation required to conduct business in today’s business environment has surged dramatically. From sanctions to complex tariffs, this flood of regulations is becoming overwhelming,” said Ami Daniel, CEO and Co-Founder of Windward.
“AI-automated document validation enables our customers to cut through the noise, minimise fraud exposure and regulatory risk, and increase their business opportunities.”
Each validation is logged to create an auditable record, with users able to add comments or recommendations to results.
