Sperry Marine reports that it has agreed a deal to deliver Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS) for two hydrogen-powered, autonomous-ready container vessels ordered by Samskip.
The 135m vessels are being built by Cochin Shipyard and are scheduled for delivery in 2027. They will operate between Oslo Fjord and Rotterdam as part of a green corridor initiative.
Samskip says that it expects the vessels to cut CO₂ emissions by around 25,000 tonnes annually in zero-emission mode using green hydrogen.
Sperry Marine’s IBS will use an open architecture to enable integration of future autonomous navigation systems. The package includes the NAVIPILOT 4500N autopilot, designed to adapt to vessel characteristics and operating conditions, and ARPA tracking technology, offering 40NM target tracking.
Cyber protection and remote diagnostics are also part of the supply scope.
“Samskip’s level of ambition on emissions requires partners like Sperry Marine, with similar objectives for innovation and the willingness to invest in the future,” said Jeroen Hollebrands, Head of Newbuilding and Projects, Samskip Group.
“These ships are a milestone for the maritime industry, delivering hydrogen fuel cells and autonomous-ready navigation as a clean and renewable technology.”
