Weathernews adds Hyundai vessel performance models to routing platform

Weathernews reports that it has begun offering routing services within its SeaNavigator platform incorporating vessel performance models from HD Hyundai Marine Solution (HMS).

The service combines HMS’s OceanWise models with Weathernews’ route optimisation and forecasting data to deliver more accurate voyage planning. By factoring in vessel-specific characteristics such as wave resistance and propeller thrust, the system aims to improve navigation safety while also reducing fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

HMS reports that OceanWise has already been installed on more than 600 ships, with trials showing average annual fuel savings of 5.3%.

This collaboration represents an important turning point that simultaneously addresses the two challenges facing the shipping industry: operational efficiency and sustainability,” said Park Jin Hyun, Team Leader of New Business Strategy, HD Hyundai Marine Solution.

“With increasingly strict international environmental regulations, we will provide practical solutions to shipping companies to help them reduce fuel consumption and emissions at the same time.”
