Avikus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with compatriot Korean company SK telink to develop and commercialise an integrated smart ship system combining Avikus’s autonomous navigation technology with Starlink satellite connectivity, supplied through SK telink as the official reseller in Korea.
The integrated system aims to deliver real-time data exchange, improved situational awareness, and increased efficiency for connected and autonomous vessels. The two companies also plan to collaborate on research combining AI, big data, and advanced communications to support digitalisation of ship operations.
Avikus, founded by HD Hyundai in 2021, is the developer of HiNAS (HD Hyundai Intelligent Navigation Assistant System), which can be used by vessels to assist in avoiding collisions and following optimal routes.
The HiNAS system is already being fitted as standard on new HD Hyundai vessels.
