Tschudi Shipping and tech partners launch GNSS alternative to combat jamming and spoofing

Tschudi Shipping Company, NAL Research and SGM Technology have launched a new maritime navigation system designed to maintain positional accuracy and integrity when GNSS signals are disrupted or falsified.

The PntGuard system, developed under a strategic partnership agreed between the three firms earlier this year, provides authenticated positioning data independent of GPS and alerts crews the moment manipulation occurs, offering a verified ‘true position’ on a real-time chart display.

PntGuard uses Iridium’s low-Earth orbit satellite network to collect signals via an above-deck receiver and incorporates NAL Research’s Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing (APNT) technology to populate a bridge display that overlays both falsified and verified vessel positions for comparison.

The company notes that crews can verify vessel movements in real time, while shore teams will be able to access validated position histories for use in charter or insurance disputes. The technology has already undergone sea trials with international shipowners, including pilots supported by Norway’s war risk insurer DNK.
