Siemens Digital Industries Software has signed a memorandum of understanding with HD Hyundai to digitalise shipbuilding operations in the United States.
The collaboration will use the Siemens Xcelerator platform as the digital backbone for the project, applying digital twin, model-based systems engineering and product lifecycle management technologies to improve shipyard efficiency and vessel production.
HD Hyundai will contribute its shipbuilding and automation expertise from across its subsidiaries, including HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Samho and HD Hyundai Mipo.
“Maximising production efficiency through digital and automation technologies is key to the reconstruction of the US shipbuilding industry,” said Moon Sang Min Moon, Executive Vice President – Global Strategy Division, HD Hyundai.
“HD Hyundai’s accumulated shipbuilding technology and Siemens’ digital capabilities will contribute to creating new opportunities for the U.S. shipbuilding industry.”
Under the MoU, the companies will collaborate on workforce development and training programmes, promote digital transformation through pilot projects, and explore technology investments.
The partners will also align activities with US policy goals for cybersecurity, workforce resilience and industrial competitiveness, and plan to expand their cooperation to allied shipyards overseas.
In a related development, ABS and Siemens Digital Industries Software have signed an MoU to accelerate digital transformation in maritime classification, focusing on product lifecycle management and model-based verification.
The agreement will link the ABS Freedom platform with Siemens Xcelerator to support digital twin and simulation-based compliance.
