Viam has partnered with Rivertrace to digitalise and automate oil-in-water compliance monitoring onboard commercial vessels.
Rivertrace’s oil-in-water monitors are used to measure oil content in water discharge. Historically, compliance data such as oil concentration, flow rates and GPS positions has often been recorded manually, creating a greater risk of error.
Under the partnership, Viam’s software platform and AI models will digitally capture real-time data from Rivertrace systems, automating compliance records and improving data integrity.
The system will support vessels in maintaining discharge levels below regulatory thresholds, typically set at 15 parts per million.
The collaboration has resulted in a UK patent application for the digital recording approach and its use as a maritime compliance technology.
