BMT has opened a new Digital Innovation and Simulation Centre (DISC) in Fareham, UK, designed to provide training on complex operations, including hybrid fleets and autonomous vessels.
The centre features the BMT REMBRANDT navigation simulator, a system accredited by DNV (Det Norske Veritas) for port feasibility and pilotage training.
It also hosts the Marine Autonomous Surface Ship Synthetic Environment Assurance System (MASS SEAS), which allows regulators to conduct trials of autonomous navigation systems and demonstrate compliance with International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).
Hardware at the site includes a reconfigurable Full Mission Bridge (FMB), two pod simulators, and a Remote Operations Centre (ROC). An LED video wall can be used to track multi-vessel operations and incident reconstructions, with the BMT ENGAGE platform, powered by Unreal Engine, used to create photorealistic digital twins and virtual ship walk-throughs.
