OCEANCO to integrate remote diagnostic systems on newbuilds

OCEANCO has signed a contract with ABB to provide an integrated electric power and propulsion system for two superyachts scheduled for delivery in 2031 and 2032, including the deployment of the ABB Ability Remote Diagnostic System (RDS), which will provide the vessels with continuous monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities.

The RDS technology acts as a diagnostic tool and data hub, offering insights into the performance of the electrical and mechanical systems on board the yachts.

By using real-time data collection and analysis, RDS allows for proactive troubleshooting and predictive maintenance. The company claims that this capability can reduce maintenance costs by up to 50% and decrease the necessity for on-board service visits by up to 70%.

The diagnostic platform is integrated with the wider technology package, which includes Azipod electric propulsion, the Onboard DC Grid, and the Power and Energy Management System (PEMS). These systems work together to optimise energy flow and performance based on operating conditions.

The RDS ensures that any anomalies are identified early, allowing shore-based engineers to provide support via a global network of Collaborative Operation Centres.

“At OCEANCO, we are committed to providing yacht owners with ultimate efficiency, comfort, and sustainability. We recognise that the power plant principle based on DC integration and electric propulsion, as well-established technologies, is critical to this objective,” said Marcel Onkenhout, CEO of OCEANCO.

“ABB’s integrated power and propulsion offerings are proven to deliver exceptional performance across the board, while the company’s collaborative approach and technical expertise make it an excellent project partner.”

The two forthcoming vessels are currently under construction in the Netherlands, with the first delivery anticipated in 2031.
