VIAVI and Ground Control to offer vessel tracking in GNSS-denied environments

VIAVI Solutions (VIAVI) has announced a partnership with satellite communications provider Ground Control to integrate its Secure µPNT STL-1000 technology into the RockFLEET Assured asset tracking system.

The technology is designed to provide resilient Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) capabilities for maritime vessels in environments where Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) like GPS are denied, degraded, or disrupted.

The Secure µPNT STL-1000 is a software-defined receiver that operates with SecureTime altGNSS Low Earth Orbit (LEO) services. It provides precise timing with holdover capability to enable tracking and navigation in contested environments where GNSS signals may be subject to jamming or spoofing.

“With jamming and spoofing now a core element of cyber warfare, resilient PNT solutions are no longer optional,” said Doug Russell, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Aerospace and Defence, VIAVI.

The RockFLEET Assured system is a marine-grade technology designed to support vessel navigation. By integrating the VIAVI receiver, the platform provides a secondary position source.

“As the frequency of jamming and spoofing continues to rise, reliance on GPS/GNSS signals alone increasingly exposes both commercial and military operations to risk,” said Alastair MacLeod, Chief Executive Officer of Ground Control.
