Windward and spatial intelligence provider Vantor have announced a strategic partnership to integrate satellite-based monitoring into maritime operations. The agreement combines Vantor’s Sentry persistent monitoring system with the Windward Maritime AI platform to track maritime activity at a global scale.
“From the Indo-Pacific to the Arctic, maritime activity is becoming more contested and complex, and adversaries are exploiting the seams between sensors, disabling AIS and masking identity faster than traditional workflows can keep pace,” said Peter Wilczynski, Chief Product Officer of Vantor.
The integration connects vessel detection, identity, and behaviour into a single intelligence loop. Sentry offers automated multi-sensor tasking of imaging constellations and third-party SAR sensors for broad-area searches.
“Dark activity has been one of the hardest problems in maritime domain awareness, no single source of intelligence is sufficient to track vessel activity,” said Ami Daniel, CEO and Co-Founder of Windward.
“By integrating Vantor’s Sentry system, we are closing the loop between detection and identity, enabling our customers to produce high-confidence intelligence on vessels of interest continuously, even when they go dark.”
The system uses AI-powered fingerprinting to generate a canonical identity for each vessel based on imagery characteristics. This enables continuous tracking across sensors and time, even when vessels disable their transponders or have never transmitted data.
The partnership also extends monitoring to port infrastructure. Sentry analyses port activity using a 20-year historical satellite imagery archive to establish patterns of life and track turnaround dynamics. This allows operators to detect and explain anomalies in port capacity or vessel movements by integrating directly with early detection capabilities.
