Wärtsilä has launched NTPRO 7, a new bridge and ship-handling simulator developed to deliver training in digitally-enabled navigation environments.
The simulator features RealSea visualisation powered by Unreal Engine 5, alongside a sound system intended to create a high-fidelity training environment. It also includes conning and overhead displays that mirror actual shipboard systems.
The tech can be used for S-100 ready digital navigation training, the new International Hydrographic Organization standard for digital hydrographic data, incorporating the Wärtsilä Navi-Sailor Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS).
“The requirements placed on maritime training are evolving rapidly as vessel technologies, digital navigation standards and regulatory expectations continue to advance,” said Johan Ekvall, Director, Simulation & Training of Wärtsilä Marine.
“NTPRO 7 is designed to help training institutions and academies prepare crews for these changes by providing a future-ready simulation environment that mirrors modern bridge operations and supports long-term competence development.”
The platform includes a Virtual Watchkeeper with artificial intelligence-powered voice command recognition and a range of vessel models to support Wind Assisted Propulsion Systems (WAPS) training.
The simulator is scalable, with configurations ranging from full-mission bridge setups to classroom environments.
