French Naval Academy to install new bridge simulator systems

The French Naval Academy, École Navale, is to take delivery of a new range of ship bridge simulation systems in October 2026, following a deal between the French Navy (Ministère des Armées et des anciens combattants) and Kongsberg Maritime.

The delivery to the facility in Lanvéoc, France, will include four K-Sim Navigation high-fidelity ship bridge simulators, which will each feature integrated radar systems and a 270-degree visual environment using projection technology to support immersive team training scenarios.

The project also includes the integration of Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality 3D visualisation, two hybrid bridges designed for multi-purpose training, and desktop simulators configured for Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) training.

Kongsberg Maritime will develop customised warship models and sailing areas tailored to the operational requirements of the French Navy as part of the agreement.

“This simulator investment will replace our previous training system, and we are pleased that Kongsberg Maritime met our expectations for a high-end training system,” said Commandant Gabriel, French Navy.

“The new simulators will provide access to high-quality simulation technology with advanced navy functionality enabling highly realistic and effective training for our cadets and officers.”

The company first delivered simulators to the French Navy approximately 30 years ago. The new simulators will allow the academy to train cadets and officers in more complex operational scenarios and prepare crews for missions in demanding maritime environments.

“Approximately 30 years ago, we delivered simulators to the French Navy for the first time. We are therefore very pleased to confirm our relationship and continue supporting the high-quality training of their cadets and officers,” said Are Føllesdal Tjønn, Managing Director – Simulation at Kongsberg Maritime.
