GSBN platform issues first ISO 5909 eBL

The Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN) reports that it has facilitated the issuance of the first Electronic House Bill of Lading (eHBL) compliant with the ISO 5909 standard, in collaboration with COSCO SHIPPING Lines and Shanghai OG Enterprises Company.

The transaction utilised the IQAX eBL (Electronic Bill of Lading) system to manage the full lifecycle of an Electronic Master Bill of Lading (eMBL) and its linked eHBL. The process, which included issuance, transfer, and surrender of the digital documents, was completed in less than 24 hours.

The use of the ISO 5909 standard provides a unified language for various stakeholders in the supply chain, including customs, banks, and insurance providers.

The standard is built upon the Buy Ship Pay model from UNECE-UN/CEFACT and is designed to support multimodal transport, including ocean, rail, and road.

It also covers multiple shipment types, such as container and bulk cargo, and is applicable to all forms of a Bill of Lading (BL).
