NYK has launched a companywide initiative named ‘SAIL with AI Compass’ to cultivate artificial intelligence (AI)-ready talent and drive business transformation. The initiative aims to foster employees who can effectively leverage AI while improve the integration of new technologies within business operations.
Under a three-year roadmap, the project hopes to increase the AI literacy of employees and streamline operations through human resource development and operational refinement. The goal is to achieve sustainable business growth and profit expansion without a significant increase in headcount.
The initiative includes the launch of the ‘NYK AI College’ training programme, which provides an integrated learning environment covering fundamental AI literacy through to practical business applications. It also establishes mechanisms for knowledge sharing and companywide deployment and creates practical use cases.
To support this technology-focused environment, NYK will offer consultation services, hands-on support, and an incentive system to recognise employee initiatives in AI utilisation.
“SAIL with AI Compass is not merely a digital initiative – it is a challenge to evolve the very way we work and create value at NYK. Through this initiative, we aim to have all employees shift to the ‘user side’ of AI, enabling them to actively reassess and enhance their own operations,” said Yasunobu Suzuki, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer at NYK.
“In doing so, we will generate greater value even with limited human resources. Another key element is building a foundation that captures frontline knowledge and challenges and shares them across the organisation, enabling continuous learning and evolution.”
