HD KSOE agrees ABS deal for software-defined vessel platform

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has signed an agreement with ABS Consulting to support the development of a new software-defined vessel (SDV) platform.

The agreement covers quality assurance advisory, assessment and validation support as the platform moves towards deployment.

ABS Consulting and ABS Wavesight, cyber security and software providers respectively within the ABS Group, will work with HD KSOE to establish a framework for software quality, verification readiness and implementation of the platform.

“The core competitiveness of future vessels will increasingly be determined by advanced software capabilities rather than hardware alone,” said Kim Hyung-Kwan, president and CEO of HD KSOE.

“By leveraging ABS Consulting’s proven expertise in software quality and security assurance, we look forward to accelerating HD KSOE’s AI and Digital Transformation (AX/DX) and bringing the true era of Software-Defined Vessels (SDV) closer to reality.”

The SDV platform is designed to move vessel control and integration functions from dedicated hardware to software. ABS Consulting will provide independent QA advisory, assessment and validation support for the new system.

“Software is becoming increasingly central to how next-generation vessels are designed, integrated and operated,” said David Wechsler, President and CEO of ABS Consulting.

“As the maritime industry advances toward more connected and software-enabled platforms, strong quality governance and independent validation are essential to building confidence in performance, reliability and long-term readiness.”
