Greensea IQ introduces autonomous robot for hull security inspections

Greensea IQ has introduced Bayonet Sweep, an autonomous underwater robot designed to inspect ship hulls and underwater structures for security threats.

The system is designed to detect and classify anomalies on vessels without requiring divers to enter the water, with applications for navies, security teams, ports and harbour authorities.

Bayonet Sweep uses Greensea IQ’s Core software to navigate along a hull and georeference detected anomalies.

The system can detect a hull anomaly, classify a potential threat and provide its location to the operator before producing an aggregated record of the inspection.

The vehicle is based on technology developed for Greensea IQ’s EverClean hull maintenance system and has been adapted for security.

“With all of those vessels coming in and out, we have no way of knowing what is on the underside of those ships,” said Ben Kinnaman, Greensea IQ’s Chief Executive Officer.

“We’ve taken the navigation and autonomy technology that we’ve built EverClean upon, the technology that allows an autonomous vehicle to crawl along the hull, and we’ve developed a security robot that can be deployed to sweep from stem to stern reliably and with high confidence to provide an operator 100% intelligence on the hull of that ship.”
